I started sailing as a boy and raced in all sorts of dinghy classes from vaurien and fireball to laser. I joined friends on their seagoing boats and competed in our local North Sea championships. Soon I bought my own first little yacht and raced with a crew to Ramsgate and Helgoland. I even participated in a transatlantic race: the Constitution Race, on a bigger boat called 'Belgium'. While I sail with passionated friends on halftonners in my homeport Nieuwpoort and abroad I frequently sail out singlehanded to destinations like Scotland, Shetland or other northern regions. I can't imagine having to live without the smell of the sea and the rhythm of the tides. At the age of sixty I think I'm ready for a new and bigger adventure.
