I’m a Seagoing Engineer working on passenger ships mostly in Alaska and the Caribbean. This gives me long leave periods in which to go sailing. Spirit of Taranto is a 1979 Contessa 32 based in Amble, Northumberland. She has been in my ownership since 2015 since when we have completed in the North Sea Race to Holland and spend time on the West Coast of Scotland as well as Orkney and Shetland. Our qualifying passage was the return trip from Lerwick to Amble. In 2017 I spent 3 months with the World Arc Rally crossing the Indian Ocean from Lombok, Indonesia to Cape Town on a Hallberg Rassy 46. Having sailed with my Co-Skipper for over 20 years in many different boats we finally have the right boat and the time available to compete in the AZAB 2019.
